On completion, the new premises will comprise a modern and flexible lettable area of approximately 20,000 sqm. Some 4,000 students are enrolled at Mälardalen University in Eskilstuna and it employs 300 people. The University is currently spread across three separate buildings and gathering all activities under one roof will enable more efficient use of premises and simplify cooperation between the different departments.

“The University is a key driver of growth in the Mälardalen region. We already own the property housing Mälardalen University in Västerås. Now we will also be the owner of the premises in Eskilstuna. We look forward to deepening our cooperation with the University and assuming long-term management responsibility for both properties,” says Fredrik Alvarsson, Head of Project Development at Hemsö.

The University will sign a 20-year rental lease on moving into the premises. The building will be classified according to the criteria for the Silver standard of the Sweden Green Building Council’s Miljöbyggnad certification system and energy consumption in the premises is expected to reach Gold level. Work on the project will commence in the first quarter of 2017 and the University will move in during the autumn term of 2019. Serneke and Pareto are the sellers. The transaction is subject to approval of Eskilstuna Municipality and Mälardalen University.
