Work starts in January 2021 and is scheduled for completion in time for the autumn 2023 start of the school year. The execution contract comprises both new additions and renovation of existing buildings, and the school will be in operation during construction.

Vasa Real is located in a growth area, with extensive new housing construction and a corresponding need to increase student capacity. The school, which is considered of cultural and historical value, consists of two buildings, which will now be renovated and extended. Three new storeys will be added to an existing extension from the 1960s. Adjacent to this building, a new four-storey addition will accommodate a 162 children/nine-department preschool and a rooftop learning room with a football pitch and play area. Vasa Real's kitchen and lunch room will be completely overhauled, to accommodate a capacity of 2,700 portions. A sports hall with eight locker rooms below ground will also be made available for the use of other municipal schools as well as associations.

“We are very pleased to see another great project come out of our collaboration with SISAB and the Stockholm education administration,” says Lars Karlström, project manager at Arcona. “We are committed to creating an amazing school and stimulating learning environment for even more students. With the school in operation throughout the construction period, our attention will be focused on logistics, work environment and third parties.”

“SISAB and the Stockholm education administration is looking forward to realising our plans on behalf of Vasa Real's students and staff in collaboration with Arcona. This is a good project, to which all involved carry a great joint responsibility towards the school children and the city of Stockholm,” says Per Lundvik, project manager at SISAB.

Arcona has already completed a number of school projects for SISAB, including Skanskvarnsskolan in Årsta, Framtidens förskola Blågull in Hässelby and Östra Reals gymnasium in Stockholm.

The contract is included in the order book for the current quarter.
