The project constitutes the first establishment of the BaseCamp Students concept in the Swedish market. The new student housing blocks will be built at Masttorget in Västra Hamnen, on land currently used as a car park.
“We are very much looking forward to finally stepping across the strait, to establish in Sweden. With a young and growing population, Malmö is an exciting city, where the university and students will take on a greater role in the years to come. We look forward to help strengthen Malmö as an educational centre, with 589 new apartments adapted to students' needs,” says Armon Bar-Tur, partner and CEO of BaseCamp Student.
“We appreciate being entrusted with building BaseCamp’s first project in Sweden. It is inspiring to be able to contribute to such an important project, which will benefit the students and help make Malmö a more attractive place of study,” says Cecilia Eneberg, department manager at Veidekke Bygg Syd.
After a phase of collaborative system design, the project is now entering a design and build contract phase, including design, construction and completion. Located at the Tåten 1 property in Västra Hamnen, the project includes four buildings comprising a total of approx. 20,000 square meters, which will accommodate 589 student apartments, common areas and facilities. The buildings, which all include basements and vary in heights up to ten storeys, will comprise a continuous block.
The new residential area is required to meet high environmental and sustainability standards, and will be certified to Breeam, level Very good.
The building permit has been secured, and the groundwork starts immediately. The entire project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023.
The contract is included in the order book for the current quarter.
