The new school will be 8,800 m2 in size and will have around 300 students and 60 employees. The school will have specialisations in general studies, engineering and industrial subjects, electrical and computer technology, health and childhood subjects as well as work and everyday life training. Thanks to good cooperation with Kvam municipality, a cinema, library, administration for the cultural school and adult education will also occupy the building.

“We were very pleased when we won the price and design competition last autumn, and we’re even more pleased now that we have been awarded the construction contract. Together with the county municipality, the municipality, users of the building, the architects in VIS-A-VIS and the advisory group, in the interaction phase we have optimised an excellent project for students, teachers and other users of the school's facilities,” says district manager Thor Småbrekke with Veidekke Bygg Bergen.

Veidekke's concept ‘oRakel’ was chosen because, according to the evaluation, this was the proposal that best utilises the site and which, through location and organisation, achieves good solutions for both interior and exterior areas. The building will be certified in accordance with the BREEAM-NOR Excellent environmental standard.

“The features in ‘oRakel’ have consistently good solutions both as individual rooms and as functional groups. The common area is well adapted for co-use and multi-use, which in its own way facilitates strengthening cooperation and learning across disciplines,” says Jan Tore Rosenlund, Development Manager – Development / Property with Vestland County Municipality.
