To further develop and streamline logistics operations and accommodate future volume growth, Dagab has signed a 15-year lease with the property company Logicenters for a new and larger nationwide fruit and vegetable warehouse in Landskrona. The new warehouse, which is planned to be fully operational at the end of 2022, has a prime location and infrastructure, and will enable a future automation solution. The warehouse will be environmentally certified, and compared with the warehouse space in Helsingborg, the area in the new warehouse in Landskrona will be more than twice as large. The total warehouse area will be more than 37,000 sq. m. with a potential expansion area of an additional approximately 8,000 sq. m.
This investment should be seen as part of Dagab’s long-term vision to build the future’s strongest logistics structure and contribute to improving the customer offering and customer meeting for all of the Axfood Group’s customers. The new warehouse will replace the existing, nationwide fruit and vegetable warehouse in Helsingborg and will supply stores throughout Sweden.
“This investment is yet another step in Dagab’s long-term strategy to develop the entire supply chain within the Axfood Group,” comments Nicholas Pettersson, Managing Director of Dagab.
“An efficient, sustainable and dynamic logistics operation – backed by an attractive and efficient assortment – is a central part of our work on making a difference in the customer meeting for our chains – Willys, Hemköp, Tempo, Handlar’n, Snabbgross, Eurocash and Mat.se,” he adds.
In Landskrona, Dagab will also take this opportunity to combine the warehousing and transport operations, which today are at different locations, to further optimize the product flow. The new warehouse will be a modern workplace that is better-suited to the business needs.
“We welcome Dagab and their employees to Landskrona. Since 2010, almost 3,000 new jobs have been created in Landskrona. Dagab will be a large and important employer in the municipality, which is positive for both Landskrona and its residents, and contributes to a higher level of employment,” comments Torkild Strandberg, Municipal Board Chair for the City of Landskrona.
The geographic site is west of the Landskrona Södra traffic junction, where the logistics property is being built on a 96,000 sq. m. lot that the property company Logicenters is buying from Landskrona Municipality.
With Dagab as the engine of underlying operations and with efficient logistics, conditions are being created for profitable growth, energy efficiency and sustainable transports. The logistics of the future is also one of the Axfood Group’s core focus areas. Since before, construction is also in progress of a new, highly automated logistics centre in Bålsta, outside Stockholm. Here it is also the property owner Logicenters that is building the facility, which will be one of the largest and most modern logistics centres in Europe for distribution of groceries. It will be unique in that it will handle picking and deliveries to stores as well as directly to online customers, with automation in three temperature zones. This omnichannel solution will improve efficiency in underlying operations, reduce food waste and improve delivery quality and service both for stores and consumers. The Bålsta logistics centre will handle 60 percent of Dagab’s volume once it is completed in 2023. With the new fruit and vegetable warehouse in Landskrona, an additional piece of the puzzle will be laid in building the best logistics operations for the future.
