The AIFM directory was introduced in Swedish court in July 2013 through the law (2013:561) about management of alternative investment funds (LAIF). Due to this, Svenska Bostadsfonden was considered an AIF-manager and their activity licensable.

Svenska Bostadsfonden funds where previously without regulations due to the configuration as a unlisted public incorporated company. The company applied for management authorisation of alternative investment funds according to LAIF on July 18th 2014.

The Financial Services Authority’s decision means that Svenska Bostadsfonden is granted a permit to manage alternative investment funds with the investment strategy fastighetsfondsstrategier (real estate strategies). Through this the company becomes on the first property funds in Sweden to be approved in accordance with the Swedish implementation of AIFMD.

“The decision means that we can, according to plan, continue with the launch of a new project aiming towards the general public during the fall of 2015. In addition we plan a launch of a second international fund” says Svenska Bostadsfonden’s CEO Lars Swahn.
