The building in Oslo city centre will room 840 pupils when it is finished in 2017. The solar panels built into the facade covers 1000 sqm, and will be one of the largest façade integrated solar panels in the country. The solar panels will produce 100.000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) each year.

FutureBuilt is a ten-year programme (2010-2020) with a vision of developing carbon neutral urban areas and high-quality architecture. The aim is to complete 50 pilot projects, urban areas as well as individual building, with the lowest possible greenhouse gas emissions. According to futurebuilt.no, these prototypes will also contribute to a good city environment with regard to ecological cycles, health and the general impression of the city.

The pilot projects are set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transport, energy and material consumption by at least 50 per cent. They will involve high quality architecture and contribute to a better environment for urban dwellers.

Brynseng school will be Norway’s most energy efficient school building and by building this school we reach towards next generation energy standards, says Bodil Motzke, environment advisor at Undervisningsbygg.

Brynseng school is a new primary school located 2 kilometers east of Oslo central station. The school will room 840 pupils from grade 1-7, in addition to 110 staff members. The school building is organized over six floors, with gymnasium and wardrobes for physical education located on the top floors.

The public enterprise Enova, that promotes more efficient energy consumption and increased production of “new” renewable energy, has supported Brynseng school with 4.5 million NOK.
– It is great that Enova supports this project and see the potential in this pilot project with solar panels in the façade, says Birgit Rusten, manager in FutureBuilt.

Bodil Motzke at Undervisningsbygg says the gymnasium on the top floor will get a transparent and insulating facade that reduced the need for artificial lighting.

Brynseng school will be finished in august, 2017.
