NCC and NREP previously constructed two phases with residential units in the area, and the third phase – which the parties have now signed a contract for – is essentially identical to the previous ones. The buildings being constructed will be between four and nine stories tall, and the assignment also includes an inner courtyard and a parking garage. In total, the area will consist of 620 apartments once it is completed.

“In this project, we had the opportunity to get involved at an early stage, where together with NREP we developed plans for how the area is to be built. This guaranteed a smooth construction process. Building the project in different phases has allowed us to optimize the process along the way,” says Catarina Molén-Runnäs, Head of NCC Building Nordics.

The project has several solutions for reducing carbon emissions; for example, the residential units will be heated using renewable energy and the block will be LEED Gold certified.

“It has been a pleasure working with NCC on this project, which means a great deal to us. Once it is completed, we will have a well-balanced offering of services for the residents, where a sense of community and sustainable values are center stage. We are really looking forward to continuing to develop the area around the Niittykumpu subway station,” says Antti Toropainen, Head of Investing for NREP.

Construction of the third phase will commence immediately, and completion is estimated for the summer of 2024.

The assignment is a design-build contract of approximately SEK 260 million and will be registered among orders in the third quarter of 2022 in NCC Building Nordics.
