The contract covers the construction of both a primary and a secondary school as a design-build project. Planning for the project is underway, and construction will commence with the demolition of the old school building and with earthworks once the school year ends in June 2018. The new school will be completed in May 2020. The budget is approximately EUR 21M, which will be entered into the order backlog once a construction permit has been granted that is estimated to take place in the third quarter of 2018.

The new school will have an estimated total of 7,000 square meters, and will house approximately 700 pupils. The new building will replace the old comprehensive school building, which suffered from poor indoor air quality.

”Our co-operation with the City of Espoo has been great in the construction and renovation of school buildings, and we are happy to implement the Karhusuo school centre as a high-quality, modern learning environment,” says Kari Alavillamo, YIT Head of Business Premises business division.
