“We are happy about the announcement. This will be one of Europe’s largest establishments. Skellefteå being the choice is a sign of strength for all of Northern Sweden,” says Lorents Burman, municipal council in Skellefteå.
 
The factory is estimated to create 2,000-2,500 jobs. Northvolt’s ambition is to initiate the construction during the second half of 2018 and finish the first quarter of the factory for production in 2020. When the factory is complete in 2023 it will produce a total of 32 GWh battery capacity per year.
 
“Skellefteå fulfills all of the fundamental needs for the establishment of the factory in an outstanding way. We also see a great advantage is being able to use Skellefteå’s renewable energy supply,” says Peter Carlsson, founder and CEO at Northvolt.
