The implementing decision, that has yet to be made, is scheduled to be made in the spring of 2018. The builders then hope that the extension will be completed by 2023.

The extension will include space for an emergency room and ambulance hall, an emergency radiology department, surgical units, sterile unit, pre- and post-op departments as well as an intensive care unite. The plan is for the new building to be connected to a new entrance on the western side of the hospital, a second main entrance that will be open 24/7. In addition, the new psychiatrics block will be located on the other side of this entrance.

The work is carried through by architects at Tyréns together with Samrén och Månsson, where Tyréns is in charge of the emergency room, emergency radiology, surgical- and intensive care unit. Semrén och Månsson is in charge of the psychiatrics block. During this winter the architects will work on the system documents and the contractor Byggdialog AB then hopes to initiate the excavation work during the summer of 2018. Then, hopefully, the hospital’s new extension will be finished in 2023.
