The agreement represents 7,900 square meters of logistics space and 4,500 square meters of outdoor storage space. Valmet is a leading developer and supplier of technology, automation and service in the pulp, paper and energy industries. Its service operations include everything from outsourcing of maintenance to spare parts and upgrades of factories and systems.

In collaboration with Prologis, the company will make major adaptations and investments in the premises to suit operations, which include manufacturing, upgrading and repairing large furnaces. These operations demand a lot of space for welding, grinding, cutting and processing.

“The operations that are moving in are dependent on good logistics because they provide time-critical service to all of Europe. Fast, precise deliveries are crucial to our customers for whom a standstill can cost millions every day. Our biggest concern was location and the cost effectiveness of the solution. We also wanted a large, stable landlord who would offer us long-term security. Prologis’s solution met all those criteria,” says Anders Bergqvist, director energy sales and service operation Scandinavia at Valmet.

Some of the next steps are to add overhead crane runways, adapt the premises for welding, as well as create more ground-level entrances, build a lab and harden ground surfaces to install tents.

“By thinking constructively, we were able to find a good solution for Valmet in our logistics facility on Hisingen. We always strive to be flexible, creative and open to thinking outside the usual warehouse solutions for our facilities, which can house a wide range of operations,” says Johan Nihlmark, director and market officer at Prologis Nordics.
