According to the KTI statistics, some 134,000 sqm of new office space were under construction at the end of June in the Helsinki metropolitan area (HMA, including the cities of Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa). The volume increased by some 7% during Q2/2021 from 125,000 sqm at the end of March. The volume of new retail space under construction also increased slightly from some 100,000 sqm to 110,000 sqm during Q2.
Rental residential construction volumes have also further increased in the HMA. At the end of June, KTI recorded a record-high figure of 12,500 rental dwellings under construction in the Helsinki metropolitan area in buildings developed 100% for rental use.
Outside the HMA, both office and retail construction volumes are rather low. Office construction volumes are currently highest in the Turku and Oulu regions, with some 15,500 sqm and 14,000 sqm of new office space under construction, respectively.
