In August 2022, NCC was contracted to construct the new emergency hospital in Västerås in partnering form with Region Västmanland, Preparatory planning and design of the project commenced earlier, and is now continuing in parallel with production. Early next year, NCC will commence construction of the frames, facades and roofs of the new hospital, which comprises four connected buildings totaling 75,000 square meters.
“Intense efforts are now ongoing in parallel on many fronts for the project. We have a team on site that is carrying out earth and groundworks and foundation engineering and we are now ready to construct the actual buildings while we continue the planning and design work. Local residents will soon be able to witness how our vision of a new hospital will begin to take shape,” says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.
Region Västmanland’s new emergency hospital in Västerås will include operating rooms, radiology, an emergency clinic, maternity facilities, intensive care unit, ward beds and clinics.
Project planning is expected to be completed in spring 2024. Separate construction contracts will subsequently be signed for each additional subproject.
The order value for the contract amounts to approximately SEK 800 million and will be registered among orders in the NCC Building Sweden business area for the fourth quarter of 2023. The Region’s total budget is approximately SEK 6.8 billion, and the construction assignment comprises part of this amount.
