DI has spoken with the chairman of the municipal board in Borlänge, Erik Nises (Social Democrats), who found out on Monday that Northvolt is canceling the factory plans. Nises tells the newspaper that he can state that the plans for a sale have been planned for a long time.

"This means that they had plenty of time to achieve clarity and openness that enables the area's potential for jobs and growth creation in Borlänge and Sweden to be put first. Northvolt has missed that chance," says Nises to DI.

The 900,000 square meter land was bought by the battery manufacturer in 2022, after Stora Enso shut down its factory. The plan was that the new factory would mean 1,000 new jobs.
