The agreement covers over 100,000 sqm and when the facility is completed, it will be one of Europe's largest battery factories. In the long term, more than 2,500 people are expected to work there.
"It feels great positive that we get the assignment when one of Sweden's largest industrial projects is to be erected. We have extensive experience of this type of industrial property and after having had discussions with Northvolt we have been able to present a well thought out and cost-effective solution for them,” says Anders Bothén, CEO of Logistic Contractor.
"Wästbygg Gruppen and Logistic Contractor are specialists in this type of industrial establishment, which was crucial for us when we chose partners for the start of construction. We notice how demand from customers for sustainable battery cells increases from day to day and we look forward to launching the construction of the base building to the factory as a first step in meeting that need," explains Jan Edgren, Head of Construction at Northvolt.
The design work is already underway. At the same time in Skellefteå, there is also a major investment in which infrastructure in the form of roads, water, electricity and fiber is drawn to the construction area in preparation for the construction start. Logistic Contractor will start work on site during the summer and be ready during the latter part of 2020.
"We feel well prepared and look forward to working with Northvolt," concludes Anders Bothén.
