"The expansion of the Ångström Laboratory is an important initiative for Uppsala University. We are pleased to sign this agreement with NCC and look forward to working together with NCC as a partner in this very exciting project,” says Hayar Gohary, Project Manager at Akademiska Hus.

The Ångström Laboratory currently consists of 72,000 square meters and is used by about 5,000 researchers and students each day. The facility is overcrowded and in great need of larger premises.

The assignment is a partnering arrangement between NCC and Akademiska Hus and includes building a new wing to the south with mainly teaching facilities and office space. Subsequently, a new cube-shaped main building will be built to the north, which will house more than 1,200 students and 400 employees. A new entrance to the Ångström Laboratory will be built in the main building together with a reception, student services, meeting areas, cafés, a library, an atrium and an auditorium. The expansion will add a total of 30,000 square meters.

“Akademiska Hus is a highly skilled partner and it is gratifying to contribute together toward developing the Ångström Laboratory. The expansion will allow research and teaching activities at Uppsala University to grow in an interdisciplinary environment,” says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.

The project will be carried out in two phases. Construction of the wing is planned to begin in spring 2018, with occupancy in autumn 2020. Construction of the main building is planned to begin in autumn 2018, with occupancy in spring 2022.
